Charlotte, NC:
What a weekend well spent! I got to get in some quality time with my sister and niece at one of my new favorite dining spots in the QC! It was her pick and I don't know how we got here but I am so glad we did! It's on my list of go-to's in the QC and I am ready to rave about it! So to start, not only was the food excellent, the service was absolutely superb but let's just start from the top!
Arriving was a breeze and though we didn't have reservations, the wait was a mere 30 minutes considering it was what I consider peak dining times (7:30ish). We were ok with this because it gave us much needed time to sit on the outside patio in rocking chairs near the fire pits. Although, we loved being close to the fire pit, having an eager almost 2 year, we quickly relocated far away! After the wait, we were seated at a 4-person dining table in a very comfortable location near the entrance.
We were greeted promptly and provided our drink orders. My pick for the night (of course it was RED) was the High Note Malbec, Argentina ($11). Superb. Yes I had 2 glasses. I wasn't driving so it was my treat for the week. After perusing the menu, I knew more than likely I wanted a steak and for me, I love a bold red wine with a good steak. And something about this place told me the steak would be good. :-)
To start, I had a small MAIN salad ($6). To say it was a 'small', it was pretty big. I actually ended up splitting this salad with my dinner date. If you are going for a heavier dinner, beware so you make sure to save enough room to thoroughly enjoy your entree. My sister had the Tomato Soup as a starter and finished off with crab cakes.
For dinner, I opted for the Big Island Ribeye ($38) and it was phenomenal. The menu pairs this steak with fries but I opted for the Magic Mountain Green beens instead. Swapping the fries for me was simply because I wasn't in the mood for French fries - that is all. There was no upcharge for the exchange. I'm so happy I tried this. It was simply delicious. Well prepared and cooked to my liking (medium) this steak is my new go to when the mood calls.
Whew! So if that wasn't enough, we decided on sharing a dessert! We landed on the Strawberry Shortcake. Absolutely ZERO regrets. First off - it's served on a biscuit - but NOT just any biscuit. It was delectable. Like - literal perfection. I didn't think would enjoy it as much as I did but WOW! It was a SSC done right!!
In short, I think you get the picture. 131 Main was just what I needed for the weekend. Good food with great people was refreshing to my soul!
