Back to Boston

Boston, Massachusetts:

We are often trying to recreate our experiences which we should definitely stop doing. What's the purpose of going after a new experience if we are continuously chasing the old one? So this happened again and we landed in Boston. Trying to so hard to recreate a simple snow scene from Denver last year was a complete failure but we instead got a completely different experience that was all its own and for this we are thankful.

First up - How we got there?

We were able to snag direct flights from CLT--->BOS and was estimated to be slightly over 2 hours but going and coming our flight time was less. This time we flew Delta. Snagging a direct flight on Delta is usually a challenge from Charlotte but this time we lucked up. I opted to take advantage of one of several companion certificates earned through AMEX for the trip. Worked out perfectly. We arrived in the chilly city around 2 pm and UBER'd to our hotel. Finding the shared ride location was not too bad and definitely much easier than O'Hare. The cost for a 20 minute ride was ~$20.00. Note: when I checked the receipt the ride was priced at $11.93 but UBER tacked on additional fees: Sumner Tunnel, Booking, and an Airport Facility Charge. Never looked at my receipts before but that was a nice surprise to see the breakdown of cost.

We made it to the Loews Boston. By now you should know this hotel brand is one of my favorites. If there is a Loews in the city, I am checking for it. This time, I didn't have to because Honey did all the work. :-). Fun fact about the hotel - it use to be the City of Boston Police Headquarters. The building still bears the name. Another king room was booked (sorry no pictures) but I can tell you the room was really spacious and the size was perfect for a couple. The location was about a block from Newbury Street and a few blocks from Copley Square so it was perfect for us.

Things I love about the hotel:

  • Customer Service = Exceptional

  • Check-In was a breeze

  • Key required for elevator and room access

  • Location

  • Safety of the surrounding area

  • Super fast housekeeping services (towel requests) as there was no full service due to the pandemic

  • On-Site Restaurant

  • Nice, self service coffee, cappuccino and latte machine

  • Spacious lounge area with cozy seating, fireplace and working areas for laptop/computer use

So while we are on the hotel, I will include the onsite restaurant even though it wasn't our first stop for food. Most hotels have an upgraded experience in terms of onsite dining and this location was no exception. Aligned with the fact that this use to be the old police headquarters, the onsite restaurant was called Precinct Kitchen + Bar. We see what you guys did here. Honey had a burger and fries one night. For lunch, I went with a CB. If it's on the menu, I am gonna try it. This one was pretty good. It was a lot for one person so I took the leftovers to the room. Definitely worth the price at $29.

The restaurant is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner but no late, late dining so set the expectation for room service here after hours - get food while you are out.

All in all this hotel hit the target for us in terms of location, facilities, and dining. It was really in a comfortable location and great proximity for fantastic shopping as well as some cool spots to take in. Not sold? Check out other options in Boston by searching Trip Advisor!

We will take you over to our Boston Foodie & Fun posts to read all about the other experiences on the trip.
