Chicago Winter Vacation (CWV) - The Hotel

Chicago, Illinois:

Staying close to the river is where we will always be. It's really center to all of the parts of the city we love. We have stayed at the Royal Sonesta before and it's honestly our favorite. It's newly renovated, a prime location and we always get the best service. One thing to note - there are 2 Royal Sonesta properties downtown and in very close proximity to each other. We always stay at the one on Wacker Drive and we always get a River View room. This time we upgraded and went for a river + city view Suite. It was almost 1,000 sq feet and was literally perfect for the stay. The room selection is a Superior Suite and has a living area, bedroom, kitchenette, and 1 king bed. Closet space was great b/c there was 1 in the bedroom and 1 in the foyer. The bathroom was not huge but perfect for a couple and I would rather trade the bathroom space for the other parts of the room. Decor was super nice, and the room was clean with not many flaws. In fact, I would say zero flaws/defects. Our room this time was 2704.

The river view from the room was perfect as usual. The city view captured mostly the sides of a few apartment buildings, but the upgrade was still worth the squeeze for the space.

The lobby of the hotel is nice. Check-in is always a breeze, and the onsite dining option is super nice. We didn't have 1 bad experience and we were here a few times during our stay.

Things we love about this property:

  • Customer Service = Exceptional

  • Check-In = Exceptional

  • Key require for floor access

  • Location

  • Cleanliness

  • On-Site Dining

  • Spacious Rooms and newly renovated

  • Adjoining room options - even though this was not a requirement, it is still great to know this exists for when we return with family or friends

Things we didn't love - but not a big deal:

  • Ice/Beverage machines are on specific floors therefore you will have to travel by elevator/stairs to reach them. This was somewhat confusing because each floor is key protected, but ice wasn't that big of a deal since we had a mini fridge to keep our beverages cool. Just so happens our floor (27) was one that did not have this, and I didn't feel like strolling to the next floor in my jammies just to get ice.

  • Mini bar is not included in the room selection - you can buy drinks from the lobby downstairs or go to the bar.

  • No room service options.

There are so many hotels by the river and there is no shortage of options but if you choose to stay here, you will not be disappointed. I highly recommend.
