Mexican Bliss

Cancun, Mexico:

Not sure where the time is heading but wherever it is, it's going by pretty fast! It's been over 2 months since our last vacation and its definitely time for the next one! I couldn't let this trip pass without making sure it hit the blog! It was one of the best times we have had! Since it was a birthday trip, we had lots to celebrate, and boy did we! Some many firsts in one trip and was the perfect way to start our set of traditions.

Let's start with the travel details! So, we flew from CLT-->CUN, non-stop. Let's just say during the flights were a bit pricey. Now during this time, the economy was definitely changing but I can fully say that my procrastination in booking didn't help, and I am sure it lead to the steep price for 2 airline tickets. Either way, American did a thing and boosted us to business class...now why did they do that?!?! Now honey just expects first/business class for every flight. You should have seen his face on the return when we didn't get an automatic upgrade. :-)

From CUN to the resort, we had a private transfer that was pre-planned. Once we got through customs and navigated through the mounds of people trying to sell packages for just about anything under the sun, we made our way to our 'people' that we booked our transfer with. All we had to do was looking for the floral printed tops and they were waiting with our names to swoop us away to our mode of transportation. We had an SUV that was very comfy and spacious. We had the option of a beverage for the ride and also received water. There was a small fee for the extra drinks but it was worth it after a long flight.

I've traveled to Mexico a few times, but this was a first for him. We made it in the afternoon and had a private transfer to our resort. We looked at several different options but landed with Cancun instead on venturing further south. We opted for Secrets the Vine Cancun. It was awesome. A little different from what you might expect in an all-inclusive resort, but it still was great. The property is not spread wide, instead it's more of a high rise building that spans vertically. We were on the 21st floor and the views were amazing. We booked the upgraded version of the Junior Suite on the Club Level. Here you have a private check-in area and additional amenities. Our room was very spacious and the views, again, were amazing.

This resort is really a high rise pseudo-condo building. Everything is in one spot. The property is really beautiful and decorated nicely.

We spent a great deal of time in the lobby, at the pool and on the beach. Well, I mostly did the beach. There was a small seaweed presence but nothing too over bearing. I was not bypassing the beach. It was a long time since my last all day in the beach session. Honestly, a few months later, my tan was still evident. I can spend my days on the beach. The sun is my friend and next to the water is my happy place.

What I love about this resort is that one it was themed for Wine. Secondly, there were lots of activities to choose from depending on how we wanted to spend out time. We attended a wine tasting and it was a really nice experience. The wine selections were nice and our guide did a great job of explaining the wines apart of the tasting. It took place in the lobby and you can easily get a list of events for the day and register through the hotel's app on your phone. Easy peasy.

There are several onsite dining options. All were good. I must admit, the reviews for this chain of resorts in terms of food was not really that great. They were all over the place but I must say, the food here was quite enjoyable. I travel with a picky eater and even he was able to enjoy himself. And - there are options! Our length of stay was perfect for the number of onsite restaurants and we actually didn't get to visit them all.

No trip to a resort is complete without a visit to their spa. This spa was nice, relaxing and comfortable just as a spa should be. Check-in was a breeze and the appointments were in high demand. I booked a late afternoon spa and had to wait 2 hours to return for my services. I got a massage and a facial. It was one of the most relaxing spa experiences ever. I could have gone back for a second round the next day.

Since this is a resort with a wine 'theme', they took the time to incorporate wine into just about everything. From wine tastings, to fabulous options for dinner to wine therapy massage oils at the spa. Every moment was loved and around every corner was a new treat.

Last but not least, one of the best attributes of this place was the staff. They were always very attentive and responded fast to every request!! We had our own personal butlers and each day, they managed to check-in just to let us know they were there for any of our needs. We didn't require much but just to know that we had someone that could help with questions or services, made this property really stand out among the others.

All in all I give this property and 10/10. I would definitely visit again.
