Miami, Florida
A weekend in Miami was just what we needed. Time away at the beach felt good. Our last trip was to Denver - cold and snowy but the Miami Beach was just what was needed to reignite that travel flame! In town for Miami's first SwimWeek & a few other industry events since the pandemic and we had a complete ball. I'm breaking down the sights and food (mostly) so take this as a mini guide for some good places to try while in the city.
Let's start with the stay at the Eden Roc Hotel. Check-in was a breeze and we loved the layout of the room. A beautiful overlook of the pools (there are 3) and beach what was in store for us. The stay was for a Junior Suite, 1 King Bed, Ocean View and is advertised at ~600 sq ft. Check-in is at 4 pm and check out is at 11 am. If you arrive early, they will hold your luggage. For this room, you enter through a long hallway outfitted with 2 sizable closets, a drink area, another area with shelves, additional storage and a fridge. Keep in mind the fridge is not for personal items but serves more as a mini bar for items that will be charged to your room. There was a sign to request a fridge for personal use however due to the pandemic neither of the options were available for us to take advantage of! The bathroom was sizable with a jetted tub and shower in one room. The toilet was separate and enclosed behind another door. Double sinks were available and the lighting was better than expected. The room layout was nice. The bed faced the balcony (which was spacious) and the ocean. The television was mounted to the wall and cornered so it was out of the way the entire time. Also was 2 chairs + a table on the balcony, a small sofa at the foot of the bed, a sitting chair and also a bar overlooking the bed with 2 high stools. Loved the setup!
Now this hotel is a landmark hotel and even though there have been some upgrades over the years, there were still some areas in the bathroom and carpeting that could have been improved however nothing that we couldn't live with for the weekend. The lobby bar was centered once you enter and leads out to the patio area with swimming pools, Malibu Farms (onsite dining), and then the beach. With our reservations, we got 2 daily beach chairs (extras were - umbrellas - $34, beach cabanas - $500, pool cabanas started at $225). We didn't get our advertised welcome drink but hey..we had enough elsewhere! The resort fee we paid was $21.00 per day on top of the room rate plus sales taxes. Included was internet, 24 hour fitness center access, fitness classes, bike rental, & in room coffee/tea setup. On top of that for all dining + drink purchases, we were assessed a 20% service fee. This is in place to combat poor tippers and the fee was assessed at all dining locations in Miami - not just the hotel so if traveling, be prepared to have the extra charge baked in. The cc hold was $300/day for incidentals. Food & drink service is available from the beach if desired. Ubers, Lyfts and car services were easy to locate from the front entrance so it wasn't difficult to hitch a ride from this hotel to areas in South Beach. Most trips to the 2100 block ran ~$7 - $9 dollars depending on the time of day. One way trips were ~$22.00 from MIA with Uber and Lyft having comparable prices.
Keep in mind that this is a family/kid and pet friendly resort if you have a preference of all adults. All in all, I loved our stay and won't hesitate to return.
