Houston, Texas
Our annual girl's trip + the commemoration of 25 years of friendship + a birthday celebration = one epic time that was had! Our crew of 7 (well 8 if you count the other body that joined us lol), took on the city of Houston and I honestly don't know where to begin. I know every year I say the current year was better than the last but it's the truth. Each year, the times that were had get better, greater, and more grande. That's by design but Houston exceeded my expecations and was at the top of my fun o'meter. A few posts will be dedicated to our 'Girl's Gone Hou' trip so come along for the ride but first let's circle back to planning for just a moment.
Everyone had a job and some of us partnered up so it made pulling this trip together fairly seamless. We booked flights months ago so we were locked in. The hotel was selected so really all that was left was coordination of transportation and building out our to do list. For the record, Houston is not at all short on things to do. Finding the to do's was not difficult at all but narrowing them down to actual selections was the hard part. Once we had the long list, we requested for everyone to review and select the 'must haves' to create a short list. From there, we left wiggle room in case there was a last minute change or the schedule became altered for whatever reason (aka sleep). We also left space for spots we discovered along the way.
Our Stay
Nestled in the heart of Houston, The Laura Hotel was designated as our place of rest. Located on Dallas street, between Fannin & Main, it was in an area that offered quiet times but yet just a few steps away from the bustle on Main. The hotel decor is a combo of classic elegance with a modern flair. Upon entering on the first floor, you head up to the 2nd floor for check-in services. Also located on the 2nd floor is the onsite restaurant Hull & Oak and the hotel's bar that connects directly to an outside patio area overlooking the streets below. Super nice hotel and I would not hesitate to stay here again.
Hull & Oak
We dined here twice - once for breakfast and then for brunch before our departure flight. All of the food was superb and in fact, this is the same sentiment for the food at the bar.
Saturday Breakfast/Sunday Brunch w/ Bottomless Mimosas featuring Pound Cake French Toast - I mean who invented this? So good, I had it twice. Other great menu items that were raved about were the Omelette and Croissant Sandwich. This hotel definitely got the food part right.
The Bar at the Laura Hotel
Beside our rooms, the bar was our second home. The drinks were on point and so was the food. We probably had almost everything on the menu.
The best on the menu that we tested were the Smoked Jerk Wings, The Laura Deviled Eggs, Hatch Chile Hummus (sooo goodt), one big ass Pretzel (yum) Quesadillas & a Charcuterie Board. I'm certain I am missing a few things but managed to snap a few photos before everything disappeared before our very eyes. Trust me on this one, the feast of bar food at this hotel is fantastic!
The Spa at the Laura Hotel
Onsite spas should now be a requirement when booking a hotel. It's nothing like a good ole' self care day to ease wipe away the stressors and embark on a journey of relaxation even if just for a day. We all took turns receiving our chosen selection of massages and in return received a Saturday morning well spent.
Though the Spa was modest in size but that didn't prevent a great experience and the services (IMO) were all reasonably priced. After check-in, you are seated in the waiting area until your masseuse is ready. You are greeted and introduced then led back to your reserved room to prep for your service. The rooms were clean and the scents were invigorating. I loved every bit of my session and would not hesitiate to return or recommend to others.
